Came across a great article in Angler Trade Magazine by Steve Schweitzer. The article really hits home the need for point of sale systems to go well beyond basic inventory and sales transaction information. Today's point of sale systems need to be all-encompassing (marketing, demographics, online sales, predictive, customer relationship management, and smartphone/table friendly).
This is something that I stress in my point of sale workshops and presentations - no retailer needs to be using multiple systems or 'pen and paper'. Solutions like NCR CounterPoint are capable of handling everything today's specialty retailer wants and needs in a point of sale system. I suspect that the new version of Microsoft RMS Store Operations will also be a complete solution as well.
