Tuesday Tip: Final Thoughts on User Defined Fields

Over the last few weeks we covered how to create custom field labels (captions or also known as User Defined Fields) related to specific information that you would like to track about your customers. Microsoft RMS Store Operations and NCR CounterPoint also allow you to label inventory fields as well.

In Microsoft RMS Store Operations manager, go to “File”, then “Configuration”, then press the “captions” button. Besides renaming several customer fields, there are three inventory fields that you can rename:

There are also 15 Supplier fields that you can relabel as needed (remember – you only need to use what is helpful to you and your business so don't feel like every field has to be relabeled):

NCR CounterPoint also has the ability for you to set your own user defined fields. Look under “Setup”, then “System”, then “Quick setup”. You will be presented with this:

As you can see, both programs allow you to label multiple different fields if there is something that you would like to track within the software specific to customers, inventory, or suppliers/purchasing.
