Tuesday Retail Point of Sale Tip

Many of us have customers who are tax exempt for various reasons (school, non-profit agency, outside your locality, etc.). Did you know that you can set the customer to be tax exempt AND keep their tax exemption number on file in most point of sale software programs?

In Microsoft RMS Store Operations you will find checkbox to make the customer tax exempt as well as a place to enter their tax exemption number under the “customer options” tab under “customer properties”. Here is what the screen looks like:

 
NCR CounterPoint user can go to the “main” tab under “customers” to enter the information which would look like this:



 
This is a great way to make sure that qualified tax exempt customers are never charged sales tax. As always,
