RITE Statement on PAX FBI Raid

Important info on PAX devices Your PAX payment terminals have a known security issue | RITE PAX is one of the biggest payment processing device manufacturers in the world.  You use one of their devices in your store to process customer payments. Yesterday a news story came out about the FBI raiding PAX’s Florida offices due to a security issue with their payment terminals.  It is early in this process but it’s critical to share what we know about the situation. It appears that the security issue relates to a type of problem called DDOS.  This is where a device or computer becomes compromised and can be used to overwhelm another target with traffic. There are millions of PAX payment terminals out there and if a hacker had control over them all, which they likely do not, they could do something like tell all the devices to visit a specific website a bunch of times - all at once, overwhelming the site with traffic and bringing it down. As of this communication, there have been ZERO statements indicating that these devices are unsafe to process customer payments.  No one from the Payment Card Industry, any Payment processors, nor the FBI have said that these devices need to be stopped from processing payments.  You may continue to use the device until further notice. As a reminder, the hardware devices you are using have been thoroughly tested and certified PCI compliant by 3rd party security companies. Based on the limited information we do have, we believe there is a good chance that the problem is limited to a specific payment processor. If true, the problem as far as it impacts you from a technical level, could be fairly benign.  If the news becomes a national headline story, regardless of what is real and what is not, it will impact the perception of your customers.  We are thinking about this as well. Again, it is early in the process.  We are attentively tracking the situation, consider it the highest priority, and are ready for action.  We will keep you posted.  Please standby. RITE Acquires RTE’s Microsoft RMS Client Base

Sartell, MN October 4th, 2016 - Retail Information Technology Enterprises (RITE -Sartell, MN) announces the acquisition of Retail Technology Experts (RTE - Miramar, FL) Microsoft Dynamics RMS point of sale software client base of over 200 retailers in the United States.

The Right Time for RITE

Those of you who follow my blog know that the point of sale company that I worked for, DirectPOS (or RVP Business Systems), stopped selling and supporting point of sale systems in fall of 2013.  Since then I have spent well over $8,000 of my own money traveling to meet with prospective employers who offer similar products and services to what DirectPOS offered.

After multiple meetings, I am pleased to announce that I have joined the team at RITE. The time was right to join RITE with the release of Retail Management Hero and Retail Realm Essentials as well as Cloud Retailer.

Don't panic - my blog site and YouTube Channel will still be a source of no cost point of sale advice and news but will now offer retail point of system sales and services that many of you have been asking for.  My focus will be around retailers located in Idaho and Utah as well as the surrounding states. RITE has multiple locations already so on-site support is available nationally as needed.

Travel Schedule 2016

My schedule for the first 8 months of 2016 is pretty booked at this point with paid consulting commitments, speaking engagements,  or other point of sale related commitments (keep in mind that I have to schedule all of this around my "day job").

However, I do have some gaps where I could squeeze in a 2-3 day trip.

As such, here are the places that I am headed to so for in 2016 (in 2015 I ended up traveling to 8 different states visiting 18 different cities and major metropolitan areas):

• Idaho: Boise, Twin Falls, Potatello, and Idaho Falls
• Utah: Salt Lake City, Park City, and areas within 100 miles of Salt Lake City
• Wisconsin: TBD
• Minnesota: Greater Minneapolis-St Paul (Twin Cities) area, Eagan
• Indiana: Indianapolis (tentative)

While I currently live in Idaho, I always have considered the Twin Cities "home" as I lived in the area from 1968-1998.   I do my best to head back "home" at least once a year.
