More Shout Outs to New or Upgrading Customers
OK - looks like these are going to be monthly posts as we are adding around 1 new customer per week. Its pretty cool that I've been able to meet in person (or will be meeting in person) with many of these retailers!
A heads up that I am also working on a fairly in depth video explaining options for RMS users as I am now booked through July with face to face meetings with Microsoft Dynamics RMS software users who have between 1 and 40 store locations.
Now on to the welcome shouts outs:
Takashima
Great group of folks to work with and there are several more projects we are working together on.
Trouts Fly Fishing
Added our Card Defender EMV system for Microsoft Dynamics RMS at 2 stores in conjunction with Gravity Payments.
Bird House Habitat
Added Card Defender EMV system for Microsoft Dynamics RMS at in conjunction with Gravity Payments.
OK - I realized that I've missed a few here but will try and catch up in a few weeks - thanks again for selecting me as your point of sale system solution partner!

RITE Achieves PCI QIR Certification
Retail Information Technology Enterprises (RITE) of Sartlell, MN and Boise, ID has achieved PCI Qualified Integrated and Resellers (QIR) certification.
https://www. pcisecuritystandards.org/ assessors_and_solutions/ qualified_integrators_and_ resellers
http://www.visa.com/splisting/ searchGrsp.do
http://www.gorspa.org/ professional/industry- certified/
As always, contact me at 208-340-5632 or kevinantosh@gmail.com with any questions.
While this may not sound important - it is when looking for a point of sale company that provides complete point of sale solutions that include the ability to process payments made by debit and credit card. In fact, VISA has mandated that all level 4 merchants need to have a "Qualified
Install" done for any payment applications. In other words a QIR
certified individual must perform the installation (or update) of any
PA-DSS compliant payment applications. This is to ensure the
installation and configuration of the application is done in a PCI
complain manner.
I'd recommend that you check to ensure that your point of sale VAR/Dealer/Partner has achieved the same level of qualification. From a security stand point, this would be a "best practice" when working with a business for point of sale equipment. Here are the websites that allow you to search to see if the company that you are, or will be working with, has the mandated certification:

RITE Customer in the News
Nice article about retail popup stores that features one of our retail point of sale customers: http://www.idahostatesman.com/news/local/article118652983.html
I've worked with Mixed Greens for more than 5 years and also have about 7 other retailers within 6 blocks of Mixed Greens that are clients/customers as well. All of these stores use the Microsoft RMS point of sale software.
Always fun to see a customer in the news (in a favorable way)!

EMV Advice and Discount Options for Former DirectPOS/RVP Business Systems Customers
Update July 2016: Since many Microsoft RMS point of sale software would like to keep using RMS for another couple of years but still need to deal with the EMV Liability Shift Date, visit this post for more information on the Card Defender EMV add-on for Microsoft RMS versions 1.3 and higher (and HQ as well): http://retailpospondering.blogspot.com/2016/06/card-defender-emv-add-on-for-microsoft.html
Update July 2016, Retail Management Hero demo and overview: http://retailpospondering.blogspot.com/2016/07/new-version-of-rmsretail-management.html
With the EMV (chip based credit and debit cards) Liability Shift Date coming up quickly (October 1st, 2015 in the United States), I wanted to pass along some important information for former customers of DirectPOS (RVP Business Systems) who formally sold and serviced cash registers and point of sale systems out of offices in Boise, Idaho, Salt Lake City, Utah and Spokane, Washington.
If you happen to be a former customer of DirectPOS or RVP Business Systems, you likely have questions related to making sure that your cash register or point of sale hardware and software is ready for the EMV Liability Shift Date. I have made arrangements with multiple trustworthy companies to help you determine what, if anything, you need to do related to your current equipment and EMV.
Even better, these companies will offer you a special discount related to any costs you may incur. Because this involves multiple different types of hardware and software, as well as over 3000 different businesses and organizations, you need to contact me for more information.
Here are the systems that qualify for the discounts:

Review of Samsung Cash Registers
In addition to having worked with multiple tablet, computer, and smartphone point of sale systems over the years, I've also worked with traditional cash registers. While cash registers might be considered a dying breed, there are still valid reasons why some businesses can only consider cash registers as a viable option.
The two most common reasons are lack of internet connectivity and lack of sales volume. A small business generating under $100,000 in annual gross sales is likely not able to afford even a $75/month tablet-based point of sale system. Depending on the location of the business, I've found that reliable and secure high speed internet access is still not available in all areas.
My thoughts on the Samsung Sam4S line of cash registers:
The Good:
I actually visited the US distribution center in Minneapolis a few months ago and was impressed with the solutions from Samsung. Over the years I've been able to see how the registers are programmed and installed. Even as a tablet and smartphone systems become more popular, there still appears to be a small niche of businesses were only a cash register makes sense.
Are you in the US and in need of no cost retail point of sale advice? I'm happy to help and can be reached on my cell at 208-340-5632 (mountain time) or via email at kevinantosh@gmail.com.

My thoughts on the Samsung Sam4S line of cash registers:
The Good:
- Durable
- Wide range of models and prices to match any budget
- More advanced options like touch screens are easily available
- Use current technology like USB and SD cards
- Wide variety of options for more advanced functions
- Still not a true point of sale system
- Can take some time to learn how to program depending on the model
- Can lose their programming if left unplugged for too long
- Future of cash registers
- Connecting the registers together can be somewhat complicated unless you have been trained by Samsung.
- Can't really think of anything other than how EMV standards might effect those who use the cash registers with credit and debit card processing equipment attached to the cash register.
